The Verb To Go – El Verbo Ir
In this topic we will learn the verb To Go (el verbo Ir) and practice using it with the Spanish Present Tense.
El verbo Ir (To Go) is an irregular Spanish verb like Ser, Estar, Tener, and Querer. Irregular verbs do not follow the conjugation rules of regular Spanish verbs. We need to learn different conjugation rules specific to each verb. Like Ser, Estar, Tener, and Querer, Ir is a fundamental verb that we use regularly so it is important to become accustomed to it early.

(Tú) Vas: You go (informal)
(Él/Ella) Va: He/She goes
(Nosotros/as) Vamos: We go
(Vosotros/as) Vais: You go (informal)
(Ellos/as) Van: They go

The Spanish preposition A (To) is often used with Ir (To go). In the following example sentences you will see it being used with Ir (To go), Dónde (Where), and ¿Adónde? (Where to).
¿Adónde vas normalmente de vacaciones?: Where do you usually go on holiday?
Normalmente voy a Almería: I usually go to Almeria
¿Vas mucho a la playa?: Do you go to the beach a lot
Sí, voy a la playa todos los días: Yes, I go to the beach every day
¿Vas a Almería con tu familia?: Do you go to Almeria with your family?
Voy con mi mujer. Mi hija tiene veinte años y va de vacaciones con sus amigas: I go with my wife. My daughter is 20 years old and goes on holiday with her friends.

Carla: Sí me encanta Francia. Vamos al sur de Francia. A un lugar llamado Saint Etienne.
Elena: Recuerdo una banda de pop llamada Saint Etienne de los años noventa. ¿Está Saint Etienne cerca de Cannes?
