El verbo Gustar with Quantitative Adjectives

In this topic we will we will we will practice more with the Spanish verb Gustar (To Like) and some useful Quantitative Adjectives.

In the previous topic we introduced the commonly used Spanish verb Gustar (To Like) and learned that it is conjugated differently to the other verbs we have seen so far. Most Spanish verbs are conjugated according to the person who is doing the action. However, with the Spanish verb Gustar you should think of things pleasing you and conjugate the verb according to the thing that is pleasing the person.

Let’s review how to conjugate the Spanish verb Gustar (To Like):

(A mí) Me gusta: I like
(A ti) Te gusta: You like
(A él/ella) Le gusta: He/She likes
(A nosotros/as) Nos gusta: We like
(A vosotros/as) Os gusta: You like
(A ellos/as) Les gusta: They like

You will see that the personal prepositions Mí (me), Ti (you), El (him), Ella (her), Nosotros/as (us), Vosotros/as (you), Ellos/as (them) are included in brackets with the preposition A (To). These are in brackets because they are optional. You can use them for emphasis, but they are not essential to the sentence.

In this topic we will learn how to qualify how much you like or dislike something useful Spanish quantitative adjectives. In the previous topic we practiced saying that you like something or someone else likes something, in this topic we will learn how to state that you like something very much, quite a lot, not that much, etc…

Some useful Spanish quantitative adjectives:

…muchísimo: very much
…mucho: a lot
…bastante: quite a lot
…demasiado: so much
…nada: not at all
…un poco: a little

I like you a lot: (A mí) Me gustas mucho

We like to sleep very much: (A nosotros/as) Nos gusta dormir muchísimo

He quite likes football: (A él) Le gusta el fútbol bastante

We quite like to go to the beach (A nosotros) Nos gusta bastante ir a la playa

I really like coffee: (A mí) Me gusta muchísimo el café

I like spicy food a little: (A mí) Me gusta la comida picante un poco

I really don’t like tea: (A mí) No me gusta nada el té

I don´t like the snow that much: (A mí) No me gusta la nieve demasiado

A nosotros no nos gusta la piña. ¿Tenéis otra fruta?: We don’t like pineapple. Do you have another fruit?

¿A vosotros os gustan las peras? Do you like pears?
Las peras están bien pero me gustan más las manzanas: Pears are OK, but we I like apples more.

¿Cuál es tu fruta favorita? ¿Y qué fruta no te gusta nada?: Which is your favorite fruit? And which fruit don’t you like at all?
Mi fruta favorita es la ciruela verde. Y no me gustan nada los arándanos rojos: My favourite fruit is the green plum. And I don’t like cranberries at all.
